Optimmune (Cyclosporine 0.2%) Ophthalmic Ointment is an ointment-type prescription medication to treat chronic cases of eye diseases in dogs. Working via its effect on the immune system, this ointment proves highly useful in the treatment of keratoconjunctivitis sicca, otherwise commonly known as dry eye syndrome. It does so through the rising levels of tear production coupled with the concurrent process of reducing inflammation.

  • Purpose: Optimmune is used to manage chronic dry eye keratoconjunctivitis sicca and pannus chronic superficial keratitis in dogs. It helps increase tear production and reduce inflammation in the eye.
  • Prescription Medication Optimmune is a prescription medication. It is recommended that this product be used under the guidance and supervision of a veterinarian. Follow carefully the dosage and administration instructions.
  • Side Effects: As with any medication, side effects with application may be irritation or redness of the eye. If any of the symptoms are noted above contact your veterinarian. Severe or persistent side effects are swelling, pain, or vision change; contact your veterinarian immediately if seen.
  • Precautions: Avoid touching the applicator tip to any surface, including the eye or skin of the pet. This -contamination precaution is recommended because the efficacy of this preparation is improved by not touching the applicator tip to any surface. Use with caution in pets with known hypersensitivity to cyclosporine or any of the other ingredients in this ointment.
  • Storage: Store the ointment in a cool, dry place, away from direct light. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use and store it out of reach of children and pets.

Recommended Dosage:

A ¼ inch strip is to be administered every 12 hours to the affected eye(s). The ointment may be placed directly on the cornea or into the conjunctival sac.
