FAQ

How rapidly will I see improvement in my horse?

While there are various time frames, in some horses evidence of improvement can be seen only a few days after commencement of treatment.

What is Equioxx used for?

Equioxx is indicated mainly for the mitigation of pain and inflammation resulting from osteoarthritis in horses.

How does Equioxx work?

Equioxx contains firocoxib, a selective NSAID for COX-2. That means it reduces the production of those prostaglandins responsible for the initial process of pain and inflammation.

How should Equioxx tablets be stored?

Keep Equioxx tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Close tightly the bottle after each use.

Can Equioxx be given with other medication?

Administering Equioxx with other medications should always be under a veterinarian's supervision. There may be some drugs that will interact with the activity of firocoxib, either reducing its effect or creating an undesired response.

What should I do if I forget to give a dose to my horse?

Since you have missed a dose, administer it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time of the next scheduled dose, then skip the missed one. Make any regular dosing as directed but not the double dose to catch up on the missed.

What are the side effects?

The most common side effects include gastrointestinal ulcers and kidney and liver damage. Always consult with a vet to obtain an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment.

Is Equioxx safe for pregnant or lactating mares?

Safety in breeding horses has not been established. Use only when, in the opinion of the veterinarian, the potential benefits outweigh the potential, but unknown, risks. Be sure your veterinarian knows when your mare is pregnant or nursing foals.

How should I expect my horse to respond while he is using Equioxx?

Observe better movement as well as a display of reduced pain by the horse. Seek consultation with a veterinarian to have a clearer follow-up of the patients.

Are their dietary changes keys while my horse is under the care of the Equioxx?

No specific dietary changes will need to be addressed, but a balanced diet by itself will provide for overall good health. Dietary changes, as necessary, need to be made according to the advice of your veterinarian and based on the condition of your horse.
